Dropbox Team Space Guide

Dropbox Paper is a collaborative doc editor that’s great for brainstorming and planning projects—but not many Dropbox customers know about it. I worked on helping these customers discover and find value in Paper. One of my most successful projects was a Paper guide that familiarizes new Dropbox Business teams with their team space.

Role: Designer
Team: Caroline Frost, Angela Gorden, Bryan Guillemette

Dropbox Business customers needed help getting set up
Team Creators—people who set up Dropbox Business teams—typically spend their first week trying to:

  • Create their team’s folder structure

  • Learn about file syncing options

  • Educate their team on using the space

Dropbox wasn’t offering many onboarding resources
As a result, Team Creators were spending hours searching for information online, then creating their own documentation and hosting multiple meetings to onboard team members to Dropbox.

What if Paper could be the solution?
I saw an opportunity to use Paper to educate customers about Dropbox Business, while demonstrating the value of Paper. I hypothesized: If Paper can help teams be successful on Dropbox Business, more teams will use Paper.

How it works
New customers discover the Paper guide in their shared Dropbox team space.

The guide covers key Dropbox Business concepts, while showing off unique Paper features like video embeds, image captions, @mentions, and emoji. It’s a customizable template that Team Creators can edit and share with their team.

Team Creators get a special to-do list in their private folder. It points them to the Team Space Guide and lets them personalize their list.

The impact was huge
Customers found so much value from the guide that we doubled the Paper sign up rate for new Dropbox teams!
